It's a Wonderful Night

Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 ~ Cancelled, Safety For ALL

As you are aware, the San Leandro Downtown Association has been working for months to put on a special 25th anniversary celebration of It’s A Wonderful Night, scheduled for this evening, December 6, from 6-9pm. However, the national weather service has predicted a punishing storm for our area throughout the evening.

The horse and carriage crew regretfully dropped out of It’s A Wonderful Night over safety concerns. The City of San Leandro has rescheduled its tree lighting; Santa and Mrs Claus will not be present; and FunFlicks was forced to withdraw its outdoor movies, all because of safety concerns.

As an event producer, the San Leandro Downtown Association must be acutely aware of anything that could possibly be construed as hazardous or dangerous to any event attendee, regardless of the source. This is obviously a sad development for us as individual volunteers, but canceling the event is the correct thing to do for our organization.

We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!

Sponsored and organized by the San Leandro Downtown Association, It’s a Wonderful Night is an evening of magic and fun, ushering in San Leandro’s holiday season. Beginning with Santa and the holiday tree lighting, the evening provided hours of family entertainment and activities, including local children’s dance and singing groups, storybook carriage rides, pictures with Santa, and much more!

Kick off the holidays with the Holiday Tree Lighting at 5:30pm. Sing along with stages full of holiday entertainment. Get selfies with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Come for the outdoor movies and games. Bring an unwrapped toy for Marine Toys for Tots and receive a FREE hot popcorn. Take a chill ride with friends and family in Horse-Drawn Carriages.

It’s all downtown at Joaquin and Estudillo Plazas, between Washington Ave. and E. 14th St. We hope you’ll join us for the holiday fun.

Psst. The best parking will be in the nearby City parking lot at Estudillo and E. 14th. Traffic through the shopping area is often crowded and slow.
