155 Parrott St.
San Leandro, CA
Who are you and what do you do?
I am a goldsmith and the proprietor of Allphin Jewelers, which makes me the third generation to run the 91 year old family business started by my Grandfather in 1923. When I joined the business I was given the opportunity to apprentice with a retired master goldsmith that had done work for my Grandfather in the 30’s and 40’s. I’ve been creating and repairing jewelery ever since, about 35 years.
What do you like best about being a Downtown Association Member?
I get to be a part of an organization with lots of quality people. All of our events are produced by volunteers, and it is truly amazing to be part of the quality and passion that can be achieved by people who do what they do for free–creating fun for the community. If you have ever been to a BikeSL community bicycle ride, the “It’s a Wonderful Night” holiday celebration, or the Sausage and Suds Music Festival, you have enjoyed a volunteer-produced event.
What’s the most fun thing you’ve done recently?
Not much. BIG FUN for me involves skiing, and the snow last season was a little lean. But… I’m optimistic about this coming season.
I do enjoy the Wednesday night Parrott St. Farmers Market. I like working in the information booth with Peggy and Judi, the music, the food, and seeing a whole bunch of people having a great time. It’s pretty cool.
