Cherry Festival 105 was a fun day in so many ways! Thanks to our SLDA fans for stopping by to say hello and picking up their cherry micro button (designed by our own Marci Dillon) and entering our raffle for the outdoor furniture set (thanks SIRIO of San Leandro!). Lisette Hernandez won the set and nearly blew out Audrey Velasquez’s ear drum with her screams of joy!

The day started with a real hometown parade on San Leandro Boulevard and continued for several blocks with food trucks, farmers’ market, kid zone, makers’ area (rockets!) and live music. Drake’s was present serving up a cherry brew along with a special edition sangria at the Bistro at the Casa… made by Robbin Beebe and Mary Melot of Divine Home Care… it was tasty!

We look forward to next year!

A key component to the success of any Cherry Festival is the parade! There were many great parade entries, all competing for the chance to win trophies in seven categories. Broadmoor Preschool took the trophy for the School Award, The Bee and Fish cars from folks at the Gate received the Creativity Award, Dean Meltz earned the Cherry Festival Spirit Award for his antique truck, Best Float Award went to the Mulford Gardens Association. The Music Award was given to the Jefferson Service group, The Crusaders Football and Cheer kids got the Youthful Spirit Award, and the San Leandro Spirit Award went to St. Leanders.  Although they didn’t win any trophies, the PupTown Doggie Day Care and Boarding entry was over the top in canine cuteness.
